On Thursday evening, Los Angeles Angel David Fletcher and Summer Harvest hosted their first annual poker tournament. Over 150 poker players and guests gathered at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach to raise money for Summer Harvest - Food for Kids. Summer Harvest is a local non-profit 501(c)3 whose mission is to provide healthy, nutritious foods to families with children on the free and reduced lunch program during summer and winter break through the distribution of food. The evening began with a VIP meet and greet with David Fletcher, a former Cypress High School student who now plays baseball professionally with the Los Angeles Angels. Next, attendees moved into the main ballroom for a night of poker play, food and drinks, and a silent auction with one-of-a-kind sports memorabilia, dining and entertainment items. Amy Payne, Executive Director of Summer Harvest, said “We are so thankful for the partnership with David Fletcher. David is always willing to help wherever he is needed. It is especially meaningful having him come back to volunteer in his hometown.” Jim Sanzaro finished in first place at the end of the evening. Jim Sanzaro, as an Angels fan, was extremely excited to win the event at this inaugural tournament. Sanzaro confided in Payne that this was only the second poker tournament he has played in. Prizes were provided to the top 5 finishers in the event. The event was very successful and raised over $42,000 in net proceeds to benefit hungry children and families in our local communities.
